Mikan (Mandarin)

Mikan(mandarin orange) goes in a different direction from old school tangerine. The orange citrus is much more candy'ish, with sweetness leading from the start. It comes across closer to orange candy than the familiar, straightforward citrus flavor I associate with tangerine. Red bull japan described this winter edition as mikan blended with other citrus notes, aiming for a balance of sweetness and acidity. That may be the intended balance, but on my palate, the candy like orange character is what stands out most. It feels sweeter and more confectionary than the OG tangerine, while keeping citrus at the center. This is not nearly as sharp as tangerine was. Far softer flavor profile. This japan exclusive, limited quantity winter edition was released on November 26, 2024. If you go in expecting old school tangerine, this will feel different. mikan is its own take on orange citrus, leaning soft, sweet and delicious to be honest. however, if i had to choose, id still pick a tangerine.

This is the first time im ever trying this flavor. My only memory is trading some OG red bull colas for a few flavors i never tasted before, this was one of them, as was last weeks lime.
